The very first prototype cell phone was released in 1973 by Motorola. It was from this phone that the first phone call in world history was made: the inventor who created this phone called his competitor from another company using it. And the first smartphone was created in 1997 by the Swedish company Ericsson.

The most expensive phone in the world was released in 2004, and today it costs $95.5 million. This is Apple’s iPhone smartphone, the Falcon Supernova iPhone 6 Pink Diamond Edition. The reason for the high cost of the gadget is that the phone is plated in platinum and 24-carat gold, as well as the back of the device is additionally decorated with a large pink diamond. There is also a more budget version of the device, which costs “only” 48.5 million dollars.

In Finland, there is such a sport as throwing cell phones. The record for the sport is 94.97 meters – the distance to which Finnish rider Mikko Lampi launched his cell phone.

There are more cell phones on Earth than people – on average, for every inhabitant of the planet there are 1.5 cell phones.

There are cell phones even in space: in 2013, British researchers sent a Google Nexus phone into space. The purpose of the experiment, organized by the University of Surrey, was to test the performance of the device in a vacuum, and its ability to control the satellite.

There is a cell phone addiction which has been officially recognized as a disease: according to the research of scientists, about 200 000 people in the world suffer from such a disease called “nomophobia”. The main symptom of cell phone addiction is a person’s fear of being away from their gadget or without it at all.

According to some researchers, on a surface of a cell phone there are in 20-30 times more bacteria, than on a toilet bowl. Of course, all of them are not as dangerous as the bacteria in the toilet, but still do not forget to wash your hands more often after using the phone.

The most popular and best-selling smartphone in the world is the Samsung Galaxy A12. About 52 million copies of this gadget were sold in 2021, overtaking in sales even the mega popular and beloved by users around the world iPhone 13.

The name of one of the most frequently used features of smartphones – Bluetooth, was given by developers in honor of the Norwegian king Harold Blatand. In translation, the monarch’s nickname means “blue-toothed”: the king really did have a dark front tooth. As for the Bluetooth logo, it was created by combining two runes corresponding to the first letters of King Harold’s name.
